Health & Wellness

We strive to prevent illness whenever possible and firmly believe that the time and effort invested in wellness care has rewards for both you and your pets. We approach every one of our patients as an individual and offer specifically tailored services and treatment recommendations at all stages of their lives.

Physical Examinations

We believe the foundation for a long and healthy life for your pet is routine physical examinations. Early detection of health issues can save unnecessary pain and expense. Based on the guidelines of the leading veterinary associations, we recommend a comprehensive physical exam every 6 months for your pets.

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of semi-annual physical examinations. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We truly believe that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” (Henry de Bracton).

Lifecycle Care

Dogs and Cats have different needs at different stages of their lives, just as we do – so we address and modify our recommendations based on age as well as lifestyle specific activities. For our youngest patients, we focus on identifying any potential congenital problems, developing an appropriate immunization strategy, and providing health care and training advice. As pets mature into their Adult years, we shift into maintenance of a healthy lifestyle with routine screenings for parasites, treatments for illnesses and injuries that may arise, and a regular dental regime. As our patients enter their golden years, we include annual bloodwork as part of our preventative care approach.

Vaccinations

Keeping your pet properly immunized against infectious disease is one of the most important things you can do to insure good health. We develop individualized vaccination recommendations with guidance from AAHA’s (the American Animal Hospital Association)protocols as well as your pet’s lifestyle and the diseases he or she is most likely to encounter. Whenever possible we use non-adjuvanted vaccines, which are safer for your pets.

Parasite Control

We make recommendations for controlling fleas, ticks, heartworm and other intestinal parasites based on the needs of your pet, their travel and lifestyle, and your environment. We review which parasites your pets may be at risk for (and when) and recommend appropriate screenings for these diseases.

Dental Care

We know that maintaining good oral health can help prolong many pet’s lives since infections of the gums or teeth can be both painful and adversely affect their entire body. We invest time in educating our pet owners about dental care and disease prevention, and will work closely with you to develop a preventative dental program for your pets, including routine professional dental cleanings and at home oral care routine. When necessary, we have the experience and technology to perform more comprehensive procedures to address other dental health problems.

Microchipping

We recommend all pets get a microchip for registration and identification, in case he or she gets lost. To have your pet microchipped means to insert a small informational chip placed under the skin. Once implanted, a Microchip is permanent and unalterable. We use DataMars microchips which are smaller in both length and thickness than competitive microchips. Plus, your DataMars microchip includes a lifetime enrollment with the PetLink lost pet recovery database. We can also scan other microchip brands to help reunite owners with their lost pets.

Nutrition Counseling

We care about your pet’s wellness and vitality and recognize that there are many benefits to proper nutrition. A balanced diet can assist your pet with daily health issues like digestion, muscle tone, and skin and hair coat health, as well as the long-term prevention of liver disease, bladder and kidney disease, renal failure, food allergies, diabetes and more. We always discuss appropriate diet options that may benefit your pet, and if necessary, we have a wide array of prescription foods to address a specific medical need.
